Korean War Veterans Memorial, Washington, DC, United States of America

Project description:

Award: 2024 Lumen Awards, Award of Merit

The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, honors those who served in "America’s Forgotten War." FLUX Studio Ltd. designed the lighting to enhance the memorial's somber and contemplative atmosphere, a project that earned the prestigious Award of Merit at the 2024 Lumen Awards.

Key Features:

Tree Uplighting: In-grade LED uplights illuminate trees around the plaza, creating serene ambient light reflected in the central pool.
Wall of Remembrance: Rail-integrated LEDs alternately uplight engraved names and downlight the adjacent path.
Statue Lighting: Ground-mounted accent lights ensure each of the 19 statues is well-lit, enhancing reflections in the granite mural wall.
Mural Wall Illumination: In-grade wallwashers minimize glare while highlighting the mural wall.
Security Bollards: Custom-designed bollards provide asymmetric light distribution, balancing path illumination and security.
